Planet Legends partners with rights holders, family estates, and regional archives to restore legacy titles and bring them back into the world through fractional patronage. If you control a pre-1980 film that deserves a second life, we want to hear about it.
What we look for
Feature, short, or serial completed before 1980. Silent, Golden Age, noir, world cinema, cult, lost, or forgotten. The film must have cultural, historical, or rediscovery value — not simply be old.
You hold the rights, represent the estate, or steward the archive. We need documentation we can verify with counsel — no contested claims, no orphan-work guesses. We help untangle gaps where we can.
A negative, an inter-positive, a 35mm or 16mm print, a digital master, or even a single battered safety print. Tell us what survives, where it lives, and what condition it is in. We commission the rest.
Our patrons fund the restoration. They receive a restoration plan, a quarterly progress report, a real revenue statement, and a credit. If transparency feels uncomfortable, this isn't the right home.

Tell us about the film: title, year, director, surviving elements, rights documentation. We respond within 10 business days.
- 02Curatorial & legal reviewWeek 1–3
Our curators evaluate cultural significance and audience demand. Our counsel verifies chain of title and clears encumbrances.
- 03Restoration scoping callWeek 3–4
A 45-minute call to walk the surviving elements, agree on the restoration target (2K, 4K, sound work, color), and set a budget and timeline.
- 04Patron campaign setupWeek 4–6
We co-author the campaign page: restoration plan, before/after stills, lab partner, distribution plan, perks, revenue split. You countersign the term sheet.
- 05Restoration & releaseMonths 3–18
Lab work begins. Patrons receive quarterly updates with footage from the bench. We plan a premiere — festival, repertory tour, streaming bow, or all three.
- 06Distribution & revenue shareOngoing
The restoration enters the Planet Legends vault and partner channels. Patrons recoup principal plus a preferred return before profit splits to the rights holder.
